You are on a through street and have the right-of-way. A car on the cross street is coming up to its stop sign and does not seem to be slowing enough to stop. What should you do?
A travels on the through street while B approaches a STOP sign on the cross street. The card states that B does not appear to slow enough.
Correct answer: Slow down and be ready to stop, even though the other driver should yield.
Why
The stop sign puts the duty to yield on the other driver, but a crash hurts you just the same. Watch for clues that another driver will not stop, such as a car that is still moving fast close to the stop line. Cover your brake and slow early so you can stop if the car pulls out. Giving up the right-of-way to prevent a crash is always the right choice.
