A yellow warning sign shows a sharp curve ahead on a two-lane road. When should you slow down?
A approaches a sharp left-hand bend on a two-lane road. An exact yellow FHWA curve warning face appears in a sign detail; A is still on the straight approach.
Correct answer: Before the curve begins, while your car is still going straight.
Why
In a curve, the tires must hold the car on a turning path, and too much speed can push it toward the edge or into the oncoming lane. When you brake before the curve, the tires have more grip left for steering. Look through the curve to where you want to go. Some newer cars give a curve speed warning, but the driver must still choose a safe speed.
