Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are backing out of an angled parking space on a downtown street. As your car starts to move, you see a bicyclist coming up the street and a pedestrian about to walk behind your car. What should you do?
A has started backing from an angled curbside parking space. B approaches along the downtown street, and C is about to walk behind the car.
Correct answer: Stop, let the bicyclist and pedestrian pass, check again, then back slowly.
Why
A car has large blind areas behind it, so backing is always risky. Before you move, stop, look and listen for traffic, bicyclists and pedestrians; check your mirrors and turn your head to look through the rear window. Nevada law lets you back only when it is reasonably safe and does not interfere with other traffic (NRS 484B.113).
