Your light is green, but the cars ahead have stopped. There is no room for your car on the far side of the intersection. What should you do?
A approaches a green light well back from the stop line. B and C are stopped immediately beyond the far side, leaving no space for A to clear the intersection.
Correct answer: Wait behind the stop line until there is room for your whole car past the intersection.
Why
A car that is stuck in an intersection blocks cross traffic, turning drivers and emergency vehicles when the signal changes. It can also leave you in the path of traffic that now has a green light. Look past the intersection before you go, and move up only when the space ahead is large enough for your whole car.
