Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are driving forward out of a shopping center driveway onto a busy street. A person is walking along the sidewalk toward the driveway, and cars are coming in the near lane. What should you do?
A drives forward out of a shopping-center driveway. B walks north along the continuous sidewalk toward the exit, and C and another silver car approach south in the nearest street lane.
Correct answer: Yield to the walker and to the cars on the street, then enter when there is a safe gap.
Why
A driver who leaves a driveway or parking lot is the one who must yield, because people on the sidewalk and traffic on the street do not expect a car to pull into their path. Stop before you cross the sidewalk, look both ways for walkers and bicyclists, then look again for a gap in traffic. Pull out only when you can reach the speed of traffic without making anyone slow down.
