Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You find an open curb space on the approach to a stop sign at the side of the road. If you park there, the front of your car will be 25 feet from the stop sign, and the rear will be 25 feet from a fire hydrant. No sign limits parking there. May you park in this space?
A is shown in a proposed curb space with a fire hydrant behind it and a roadside STOP sign ahead. The nearest ends of A would each be 25 feet from the respective object.
Correct answer: No; you are within 30 feet of the stop sign on its approach side.
Why
A parked car close to a stop sign or signal can hide it from approaching drivers, who may then fail to stop. The statute names stop signs, flashing signals and traffic signals at the side of the road, and the manual's list also names yield signs. Keeping the approach clear also gives drivers a better view of cross traffic.
