Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
Four drivers leave their cars for a few minutes in a store parking lot. Which driver leaves the car the way New Hampshire law requires?
Correct answer: Ben stops the engine, takes the key with him, sets the brake and locks the doors
Why
An unattended car with the engine running or the key inside can be stolen, can be moved by a child, or can roll. On a grade you must also turn the front wheels to the curb or the side of the road. State law has two narrow exceptions that the manual does not list: a car started by a remote starter, which must stay locked until the driver arrives, and a car that idles on the owner's own property.
