Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You have parked at the curb on a busy street. You need to get out on the driver's side, next to moving traffic. What should you do?
Correct answer: Check for traffic, open the door only when safe, then close it quickly.
Why
New Mexico law forbids opening a door on the traffic side unless it is reasonably safe and will not interfere with moving traffic, and forbids leaving it open longer than needed. Get out on the curb side when you can. If you must use the street side, check your mirror and look over your shoulder for cars and bicycles, then shut the door as soon as you are out.
