Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You want to park on a street near a railroad crossing. No signs limit parking there. What is the minimum distance your vehicle must be from the nearest rail?
A approaches a railroad crossing while seeking a curbside parking place. No special parking sign is shown.
Correct answer: 50 feet
Why
A vehicle parked near the tracks can block the view of drivers who look for trains, and it takes up space that vehicles need to clear the crossing. The rule also covers a stop with the driver inside, unless traffic, a police officer or a traffic-control device requires the stop. Do not mix it up with the stop for a train, which must be 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail.
