Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
A delivery driver stops for one minute on a marked crosswalk in the middle of a block to drop off a package. No one is using the crosswalk. Which statement is correct?
A has stopped across a marked midblock crosswalk to drop off a package. No pedestrian is present.
Correct answer: The stop is illegal, because a vehicle may not stop or stand on a crosswalk.
Why
A vehicle on a crosswalk makes people on foot walk around it, out into moving traffic. New Mexico law allows a stop on a crosswalk only when it is needed to avoid other traffic or to obey the law, a police officer or a traffic-control device. Look for a legal spot at the curb instead, clear of the crosswalk.
