Passing target: 70% (21/30)
On a two-lane road, three slow cars are traveling in a line ahead of you, and the road markings allow passing. What does the manual advise?
A follows three silver cars on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A long open gap separates the nearest car B from car C, and no oncoming vehicle is shown.
Correct answer: Plan to pass only one vehicle at a time, not the whole line at once.
Why
Every second in the oncoming lane is exposure to a head-on crash, and the vehicles you pass can block your view of people, side roads and oncoming traffic. Do not begin a pass when a hill or curve is less than about one-third of a mile ahead, and do not pass near intersections, railroad crossings or places where the road narrows. If you are the slow vehicle and traffic is lined up behind you, pull over where it is safe and let it pass.
