Passing target: 70% (21/30)
You are on a two-way street with one lane in each direction, and you will turn left onto another two-way street. Where should your car be as you approach and complete the turn?
A approaches a left turn from a two-way street. The crossing street has a yellow center line and two lanes in each direction.
Correct answer: Next to the center line, then into the lane just right of the new street's center line.
Why
Turning from the lane nearest the direction you want to go, into the lane nearest the one you came from, means you cross the fewest lanes of traffic. Leave room for an oncoming driver who is turning left at the same time, so that your paths do not cross. Before you turn, yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to be a hazard and to pedestrians in the street you are entering, and after the turn you may change lanes when it is safe.
