Passing target: 70% (21/30)
You are passing a car on a two-lane road. When is it safe to move back into the right lane?
A has overtaken B in the opposing lane of a two-lane road. B remains in the right lane behind A.
Correct answer: When you can see both of the other car's headlights in your rearview mirror.
Why
New Mexico law requires a passing driver to pass at a safe distance and not return to the right side of the road until safely clear of the vehicle passed. The law also says you must be back on the right side before you come within 100 feet of an oncoming vehicle, so do not start a pass without room to finish it. The driver being passed must give way to the right and must not speed up until the pass is complete. Do not stay in the other driver's blind spot longer than you must, and signal before you move back.
