Passing target: 70% (21/30)
You want to go straight at an intersection. Your traffic light is steady red, and there is a marked crosswalk on your side of the intersection. What must you do?
A approaches an intersection intending to continue straight. A steady red signal is shown beside a full-width marked crosswalk. A is well behind the stop line.
Correct answer: Stop before the crosswalk and wait there until the light turns green and cross traffic has cleared.
Why
When there is no crosswalk, New Mexico law puts the stop point before you enter the intersection itself. A steady red light still allows a right turn after a full stop when it is safe, unless a sign prohibits it, and you must yield to pedestrians and traffic when you make that turn. Some red lights have a small, very bright flashing light in the center; it only draws your attention and does not change what the red light means.
