On a rural highway, you see an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) stopped at the edge of the road ahead. The rider looks ready to cross. What should you do?
A travels north on a two-lane rural highway. An ATV rider, B, is stopped beside the left edge ahead and faces directly across the road, ready to cross; a separate enlarged detail shows the ATV.
Correct answer: Slow down and be ready to stop, since ATVs may cross many highways
Why
Before it crosses, an ATV or snowmobile must stop, yield to traffic and cross at a right angle to the road. ATVs and snowmobiles are low and small, so they can be hard to see, especially at dusk or in snow. Watch for them near trails in rural areas.
