Passing target: 70% (14/20)
On an expressway, you drive in the left lane, a little ahead of a tractor-trailer in the right lane. Your exit is a short distance ahead on the right, and the gap in front of the truck is small. What is the safest way to reach your exit?
A is in the left expressway lane slightly ahead of tractor-trailer B in the right lane. A right exit branches away ahead, and there is little space between A’s front and the truck’s front.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the truck move ahead, then move in behind it and exit
Why
A tractor-trailer with air brakes takes longer to stop than a car at the same speed, partly because the trailer brakes need time to work. Trucks also have large blind spots beside and behind them. If you must change lanes in front of a truck, signal early and avoid sudden moves.
