Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You are waiting to turn left at an intersection. On the other side of the road, a bicyclist is coming toward you in a marked bicycle lane. The rider seems to be moving slowly. What should you do?
A faces west and waits to turn left at an intersection. Oncoming bicyclist B rides east in the marked bicycle lane along the far side of the road.
Correct answer: Yield to the bicyclist as you would to an oncoming car, and turn after the rider has passed.
Why
Many crashes happen when a driver turns across the path of a bicyclist at an intersection or a driveway. Give bicyclists extra space, and make sure that the rider has seen you before you move. Learn the hand signals that bicyclists use for turns and stops so that you know what a rider plans to do.
