Alex is about to back out of his driveway. A few minutes ago, children from next door were playing near the end of it. He checks his backup camera and both side mirrors, sees no one, and starts to back out slowly. Which statement about Alex is correct?
A is facing away from the street in a driveway. The card states that Alex starts backing after the camera and mirrors show no one, although children had been nearby. No unseen child is invented.
Correct answer: He did not do enough: with children nearby, he should first get out and look behind the car
Why
Small children are hard to see from the driver's seat, and they may run behind a car without warning. New York law allows backing only when it can be done safely. Expect children near schools, playgrounds, parks, bus stops and ice cream trucks, and look through the rear window, not only at the mirrors or a screen, while you back up.
