Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You approach a highway work zone. A sign says LANE CLOSED AHEAD, and a flashing arrow board points to the open lane. You are in the lane that will close. What should you do?
A travels in the right of two same-direction lanes toward a cone taper that closes its lane. A black arrow board shows a lit left arrow, and an inset shows the orange RIGHT LANE CLOSED AHEAD warning sign.
Correct answer: Slow down and move into the open lane at the first safe gap
Why
Work zones can change the road quickly: lanes shift or close, traffic may stop, and workers may be close to your lane. When you move over at first notice, you avoid hard braking and a late merge next to barriers and equipment. Keep at least two seconds between you and the vehicle ahead, and obey the work-zone signs until you pass the sign that ends the zone.
