Your light turns green, but traffic on the far side of the intersection is backed up. There is no room for your car beyond the crosswalk on the other side. What should you do?
A faces a green light before an intersection with marked crosswalks. Cars B and C are backed up beyond the far crossing, leaving no room for all of A beyond it.
Correct answer: Wait at the stop line until your whole car can fit past the intersection.
Why
A car stuck in the intersection when the light changes blocks cross traffic, emergency vehicles and pedestrians. The same rule applies at railroad crossings: never start across unless there is room for your whole vehicle on the other side. Wait at the stop line, even if drivers behind you honk.
