Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You park in your driveway on a mild spring day after a trip with your young child. Before you walk into the house, what does the North Dakota manual advise?
Correct answer: Look in the back seat, lock the car, and keep the keys out of a child's reach.
Why
Vehicle heatstroke is one of the leading non-crash causes of death for children, and it can start when a child's body temperature reaches about 104 degrees. Children are more at risk than adults, and a closed car heats quickly even on a mild day. A locked car with no keys in reach also keeps children from climbing in to play. If you see a child alone in a vehicle, take action at once.
