Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are driving through an intersection on a green light when an ambulance with flashing red lights and a siren comes up behind you. What should you do?
A is inside a four-way intersection under a green signal. Ambulance B approaches from behind, with red lamps visible and a card identifying flashing lights and a siren.
Correct answer: Clear the intersection, then pull over to the right edge and stop until it passes.
Why
Emergency vehicles always have the right-of-way when they use flashing red, white or blue lights or a siren. A predictable move to the right gives the driver a clear lane. After it passes, check for more emergency vehicles before you pull back into traffic. North Dakota law also says that you may not follow closer than 500 feet behind an emergency vehicle that shows its emergency lights.
