Sharing the RoadStandalone practice
You follow a motorcycle on a busy four-lane road at 50 mph in light rain. What following time does the current Ohio manual give for this situation?
A follows motorcycle B in the right lane of a wet four-lane road in light rain. Cars occupy the adjacent and opposing lanes, and a small fixed roadside post is near B. The card gives A’s speed as 50 mph.
Correct answer: At least 4 seconds, because conditions are less than ideal
Why
A rider may need to slow down or change position suddenly to avoid potholes, gravel, wet surfaces or pavement seams. A motorcycle is also harder to see than a car, so keep it in view and leave the rider the full lane. More time protects the rider and you.
