Passing target: 75% (30/40)
On a freeway, you pass a large truck on its left side. When is it safe to move back into the lane in front of the truck?
A travels in the left freeway lane, ahead of truck B in the right lane. The card says A plans to return to the lane in front of B; the question image has no mirror detail or return route.
Correct answer: When the whole front of the truck shows in your rearview mirror, and you then keep your speed
Why
A loaded truck at 55 mph in ideal conditions needs at least 335 feet to stop, which is more than 1½ times the distance for a car. If you cut in close and then slow down, the truck driver may not be able to stop in time. Do not cut in front of a truck to reach an exit or to get into a single-lane work zone first.
