You are stopped behind the stop line in the right lane at a red light. A large truck in the lane to your left signals a right turn. When the light turns green, the truck starts to swing into the intersection for a wide right turn. What should you do?
A is stopped behind the stop line in the right lane, with tractor-trailer B in the lane to its left. The signal detail shows green, and the card states that B signals right and starts a wide turn.
Correct answer: Stay behind the stop line and let the truck complete its turn before you move
Why
Trucks and buses need extra room to turn, because the rear wheels of a long vehicle follow a tighter path than its front wheels. A car that moves into the space beside a turning truck can be crushed against the curb. Large vehicles also take longer to stop, so do not turn left in front of one when you are not sure of its speed.
