You follow a tractor-trailer on a highway. From your seat, you cannot see either of the truck's side mirrors. What does this tell you?
Blue A follows tractor-trailer B in the right-hand lane of a two-lane highway. The card states that neither of B’s side mirrors is visible from A’s seat.
Correct answer: The truck driver cannot see you, so drop back until you can see the mirrors.
Why
Trucks have large blind spots, called No-Zones, on both sides and behind the trailer. A gap of at least four seconds keeps you out of the rear No-Zone and gives you a view of the road ahead. At night, dim your headlights when you follow a truck, because high beams glare in its large mirrors. A loaded truck at 65 mph needs about 600 feet to stop, compared with about 400 feet for a car.
