Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
A curb sign shows a black letter P inside a red circle with a slash. No days or hours are shown. You want to wait in your car at this curb, with the engine running, for about 20 minutes while a friend shops. Is this allowed?

Correct answer: No, because a 20-minute wait here is parking, even with you in the car.
Why
You may not park where this sign is posted. In the Vehicle Code, parking where it is prohibited means halting a vehicle, occupied or not, except for a short stop while you actually load or unload passengers or property. Thus waiting for someone with the engine running is still parking. If a plate under the sign lists days or hours, the ban applies at those times.
