Your car has a blind-spot warning light in the left side mirror. You want to move into the left lane, and the warning light is off. What should you do before you move?
Blue car A is in the right lane of a four-lane road and plans to move left. An enlarged left-mirror detail shows its blind-spot warning icon unlit, matching the card’s stated off condition.
Correct answer: Turn your head for a quick look over your left shoulder, then move if clear.
Why
A blind spot is any area around your car that you cannot see without moving your head. The areas at your left rear and right rear are blind spots, so check them with a head turn before every lane change. Signal first, check your mirrors, then glance over your shoulder, and keep your eyes off the road ahead for no more than a second.
