Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
You are on a highway in a rural municipality, outside a hamlet, with one lane in each direction. You can see only 200 m ahead. May you begin passing another vehicle just because no oncoming vehicle is visible?
Correct answer: No. The Act requires a clear view of at least 320 m on this road.
Why
Do not pass in this situation. Saskatchewan's Traffic Safety Act requires a clear view of the highway for 320 m ahead when passing in the rural setting described. The statutory exception for two or more lanes in the same direction does not apply here. Even the minimum clear view is not a guarantee that you have enough room and time: check the full passing distance, oncoming traffic, road layout and other restrictions before committing.
