Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
You approach a divided highway from a side road at a restricted crossing U-turn intersection and want to travel left along the highway. Which route must you use?
A side road joins a divided highway with a right entrance ramp and a separate designated U-turn route farther along the highway.
Correct answer: Turn right into the acceleration lane, then move over to the U-turn lane.
Why
At a restricted crossing U-turn intersection, side-road traffic wanting to travel left cannot turn directly across the divided highway. Enter to the right using the acceleration lane. When safe, signal, check mirrors and shoulder check for each lane change toward the designated U-turn lane. Complete the U-turn into the acceleration lane in the opposite direction, then safely move into the required driving lane. Do not sweep across several lanes in one unchecked movement.
