Riley is 16, has a driver's license, and wants to drive the family's permitted golf cart on public roads near home. No local ordinance sets other rules. Which trip is allowed?
Correct answer: A daytime trip on a secondary road with a 35 mph limit, 3 miles from home.
Why
The golf cart needs an SCDMV permit decal and registration, and the driver must carry the registration, proof of insurance and a driver's license. Each passenger under age 12 must wear a fastened safety belt on public roads. The manual cites S.C. Code 56-2-105, but that section was repealed in 2025; the same rules are now in 56-2-90.
