Your car breaks down on the interstate, and you steer it fully onto the right shoulder. You need help. Which plan follows the Tennessee manual?
A has broken down and stands fully on the paved right shoulder while B passes in the interstate travel lane. No person, walking route, flashers or help signal is selected.
Correct answer: Turn on the flashers, raise the hood or tie a white cloth to it, and wait in or near the car away from traffic.
Why
Even on the shoulder, a car that has stopped on the interstate is in great danger from passing traffic. Make the car easy to see, keep all people away from the travel lanes, and wait for help. Police officers stop for disabled cars, and in the Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville areas, the yellow TDOT HELP trucks also give assistance.
