Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You follow a pickup truck on a two-lane highway with a two-second gap. Steady rain begins, and the road gets wet. How should you change your following gap?
Blue A follows a silver pickup B on a two-lane road as rain begins. Its given gap is two seconds. A 30 mph spacing example is explicitly labelled.
Correct answer: Increase it to at least four seconds.
Why
The two-second gap is for good conditions. Rain, snow, night driving, higher interstate speeds and following a motorcycle all call for at least four seconds. On wet pavement you need more distance to stop and you see hazards later, so the extra time gives you room to brake without a skid.
