Passing target: 80% (32/40)
The traffic lights at an intersection are dark because of a power failure. You and a car on your right come to a full stop at the same time, and you both plan to go straight. Who should go first?
Eastbound A and northbound B on A’s right are stopped together at an intersection with equal-width streets and dark signals. All four signal heads are unlit.
Correct answer: The car on your right, because the driver on the left must yield
Why
When a traffic signal is dark because of a failure or a crash, treat the intersection as an all-way stop. Each driver comes to a full stop; the first to stop goes first, and when two stop at the same time, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. A signal that flashes is not dark, so obey the flashing red or yellow light instead.
