Correct answer: D. Be ready for workers, equipment or lane changes ahead.
Why
This orange sign warns that road work starts at the distance shown. Ahead you can find workers, equipment, cones, a lower speed limit or lane changes. Slow down, put away distractions, and obey all work zone signs and flaggers. Orange means a temporary work zone. A ROAD CLOSED sign is different: it tells you that you cannot drive through, and DETOUR signs then show another route.
Why the other answers are not correct
- A. Wrong: the sign warns drivers of obstructions or restrictions in the work area ahead.
- B. Wrong: this sign warns of work ahead; a closed road is shown by a ROAD CLOSED sign.
- C. Wrong: this is an advance warning sign; you stop only where a flagger or a sign tells you to stop.
