Correct answer: C. A school is near, and children may cross or walk by the road.
Why
This five-sided, yellow-green sign warns that you are near a school area or a school crossing. Slow down, watch for children near the road and at crosswalks, and be ready to stop. With a down-pointing arrow plaque below it, the sign marks the crossing itself. Do not mix it up with the pedestrian crossing sign: that sign is a diamond, and it can also be yellow-green. The five-sided shape tells you that the area or crossing is for a school.
Why the other answers are not correct
- A. Wrong: a playground has its own warning sign; this five-sided sign warns of a school area or a school crossing.
- B. Wrong: trail crossings use other warning signs; the yellow-green pentagon is a school sign.
- D. Wrong: a ban on pedestrians is a white regulatory sign; this sign is a warning to drivers.
