You plan to move from the right lane to the left lane. Your mirrors show that the left lane is clear, and your signal is on. What should you do before you steer into the left lane?
Blue car A faces right in the right lane of a two-lane carriageway. The left lane is empty. The card states that A is signaling left and the mirrors show that lane as clear.
Correct answer: Turn your head and look over your left shoulder into the blind spot
Why
The order for a lane change is: check your mirrors, signal for at least two seconds, look over your shoulder in the direction of the move, and move over when it is safe. Adjust your outside mirrors so you can just see the side of your car; this makes the blind spots smaller, but it does not remove them. A motorcycle or small car can stay hidden in a blind spot for several seconds.
