Your light turns green. The traffic on the far side of the intersection is backed up, and there is no room for your car beyond the crosswalk on that side. What should you do?
Blue car A approaches a green-light intersection. Silver cars B and C occupy the receiving lane just beyond the far crosswalk, leaving no room for A.
Correct answer: Stay behind the stop line until there is room for your car on the far side
Why
Before you enter an intersection, look ahead to the far side and make sure that there is room for your whole vehicle. If traffic is backed up, wait behind the stop line even on a green light. A car that is stuck in the intersection when the light changes blocks cross traffic, emergency vehicles and pedestrians. The same rule applies to marked crosswalks and railroad crossings.
