In a work zone, a large arrow board beside the road shows no arrow. Only the lights at its four corners blink. What should you do?
A large black arrow board stands beside the road with four blinking corner lamps and no illuminated arrow. No lane-change path or action label is shown.
Correct answer: Slow down and drive with extra care through the work area.
Why
Work crews use flashing arrow panels to guide traffic into the correct lane. When no lane change is needed, the panel is set to caution mode: a straight line of blinking lights, or lights that blink only at the four corners. Caution mode tells you to slow down and watch for workers, equipment and stopped traffic, and Vermont law requires caution and a reasonable, safe speed when you approach a work zone.
