Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You approach a railroad crossing. The red lights flash, and the gate starts to come down. Where must you stop your vehicle?
A approaches a railroad crossing with a red warning light and a gate starting to lower. The crossbuck and signal stand on A's right before the nearest rail. No stop distance is selected.
Correct answer: At least 15 feet and not more than 50 feet from the nearest rail
Why
Stay stopped while the gate is down or moving: Vermont law does not let you drive through, around or under a closed gate. When the gate goes up, look and listen before you cross, because one train can hide a second train on another track. The same stop rule applies when a train is near and you can see it or hear its whistle, and at a crossing with a stop sign.
