For a few days, you notice that your brake pedal goes down much farther than it used to before the car slows. What does the Vermont manual tell you to do?
Correct answer: Have the brake fluid checked at once, because the brake system may have a leak.
Why
Brake fluid carries the force of your foot to the brakes, so a leak reduces your stopping power, and a small leak can get worse. The manual tells you to have the brakes checked at regular intervals and to make sure that the brake system has plenty of fluid. A yearly inspection does not replace this care: the manual warns that a car that is not in good running order can put you at fault in a crash.
