Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You are behind a slow farm tractor on a two-lane road. The center line on your side is broken, but the road climbs to a hilltop just ahead, and you cannot see past it. When may you begin to pass?
Blue car A follows green farm tractor B on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A separate hill profile shows a crest that hides the road beyond.
Correct answer: Only after the hilltop, when you can see enough clear road to finish the pass.
Why
A hill crest or a curve can hide an oncoming vehicle until it is too late to get back into your lane. Vermont law forbids a pass when you approach or are on the crest of a hill, or on a curve, where your view is blocked, whatever the center line shows. The manual also lists railroad crossings and intersections as places where you must not pass. Pass a slow farm vehicle only when conditions are safe and no oncoming traffic is near.
