Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You pass a tractor-trailer on a highway with two lanes in your direction. When may you move back into the right lane in front of the truck?
A is in the left lane while passing white tractor-trailer B in the right lane. No mirror inset or return path is shown.
Correct answer: When the whole cab of the truck is visible in your inside rearview mirror
Why
If a car moves back into the lane too close to a truck, the truck driver can have too little time to prevent a crash. Keep a constant speed while you pass, because it takes longer to pass a truck than a car. Vermont law also requires a passing driver not to move back to the right until the car is safely clear of the vehicle that it passed.
