You are about to turn right from a two-lane road onto a side street. Where should your car be as you approach and make the turn?
A travels toward a right turn on a two-lane road. It remains upstream in an ordinary lane position with no path or edge-distance mark.
Correct answer: About three feet from the right side of the road, and close to the right as you turn.
Why
For a right turn, Vermont law requires both the approach and the turn to be as close as practicable to the right curb or edge of the roadway. The manual suggests a position about three feet from the right side, and warns you not to swing to the left before you turn. Look for bicyclists and pedestrians on the right and yield to them. If the new street has more than one lane in your direction, turn into the nearest lane.
