Passing target: 85% (34/40)
You are in the middle of an intersection on a green light. An ambulance with a siren and flashing lights comes up behind you. What should you do?
A is inside a green-light intersection. Ambulance B approaches from behind with flashing-light marks.
Correct answer: Clear the intersection, then pull to the right edge and stop
Why
The manual tells you to move to the right edge of the road and stop there. Virginia law adds that the stop must be clear of any intersection, so that the emergency vehicle and the cross traffic have space (§ 46.2-829). After the ambulance passes, check traffic before you move again, and do not follow an emergency vehicle with flashing lights closer than 500 feet.
