Passing target: 85% (34/40)
The traffic lights at an intersection are dark because of a power failure. A police officer stands in the intersection and signals your lane to go through without a stop. What should you do?
A approaches a junction controlled by an officer waving A through. A labelled signal detail is dark.
Correct answer: Obey the officer, and go through the intersection with care
Why
Virginia law lets officers take control of any intersection, and all drivers must obey their signals (§ 46.2-834). The all-way stop rule for dark signals also does not apply where portable stop signs are in place; there, obey the signs. Always follow the direction of an officer, even if it is different from a sign or signal.
