Passing target: 85% (34/40)
You drive out of a parking lot onto a city street. A sidewalk crosses the exit. No one is on the sidewalk, and no sign is posted at the exit. What must you do?
A approaches an empty sidewalk across a parking-lot exit. No sign, stop line or stopping halo is present.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, and then yield to traffic on the street
Why
Pedestrians on the sidewalk have the right-of-way over a vehicle that comes out of a driveway, parking lot or building. The stop gives you time to see the people who walk or ride on the sidewalk, and then the traffic on the street. Where a traffic signal or another traffic control device controls the exit, obey that device (§ 46.2-826).
