Your car loses power in the right lane of an Interstate, but it can still roll. What should you do?
A remains in the right of two Interstate lanes while losing power. The car can still roll; a shoulder is visible, with no selected route.
Correct answer: Move as far off the road as you can, turn on the flashers, and take everyone out, well away from traffic.
Why
Drivers on an Interstate move fast and may not see a stopped car until they are close. West Virginia law (17C-13-1) tells drivers not to leave a vehicle on the main traveled part of a highway outside a business or residence district when they can move it off. If you have flares, the manual tells you to put one about one car length behind your car and another about 300 feet back, on the shoulder near the edge of the through lane.
