Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are parked at the right curb of a busy street and want to pull out. A car in the lane next to you is only a few car lengths behind you. What should you do?
A is parked at the right curb, with silver B approaching close behind in the adjacent lane. No pull-out path or driver head-check detail is shown.
Correct answer: Signal, turn your head to check the lane, and wait until the car has gone by.
Why
A driver who leaves a curb enters a lane where traffic already moves. In West Virginia, you may start a stopped or parked vehicle only when the move is reasonably safe (17C-8-7), and you must signal when your move can affect other traffic (17C-8-8). A head check shows bicycles and motorcycles that the mirrors can miss. Signal early, so that other drivers know what you will do.
