Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road with one lane in each direction, the car ahead stops at an intersection to turn left and waits for oncoming traffic. The paved shoulder on your right is wide enough for your car. What should you do?
A approaches car B, which waits at an intersection for a left turn while oncoming silver C approaches. A broad paved shoulder lies on the right, with no passing or waiting instruction in the question.
Correct answer: Stop behind it, and wait until it has turned.
Why
Passing on the right is allowed only in limited cases, such as a road with a lane for passing on that side, and never by driving onto the shoulder. Drivers do not expect traffic on the shoulder, and pedestrians, bicycles or a disabled car can be there. On a narrow two-lane road, a short wait behind a left-turning car is the safe and legal choice.
